I’m not in many meetings but when I am, I oversell and overpromise then immediately forget everything we discussed as soon as it ends.

For me the guy who always said it was a former boss and he was good at actually circling back, but sometimes it felt more like “fuck that for now.”

I always think of the ping command line utility because I haven’t really used the word outside that context ever.

I always hated “circle back” but I did get into using it ironically for a while.

I don’t remember what it was exactly but someone said something along the lines of “we’ll need to massage it a bit as we roll it out” regarding a new system being implemented.

Keurig coffee makers. My first one killed itself during descaling, the in-warranty replacement’s buttons were cursed and never worked. I always felt guilty for destroying the planet one K-Cup at a time too.

The terrible devices actually encouraged me to grind my own beans and make Japanese-style pour over iced coffees.

Yeah. I go to the post office semi-regularly and I see people complain about this problem; the employees just roll their eyes and say to mark the mail.

Not going to say I haven’t done that but I’d rather stop receiving it at all.

What do you do after doing this for 4+ years for the same person and bank, and you’ve gone as far as showing up in person at the bank’s local branch?

I’ve been doing this for 4+ years for the same person and bank. I even showed up in person to the local branch and spoke to a manager. I’m having the same problem as OP; it never ends.

What’s more: no one (landlord, neighbors) knows who this person is. They’ve even got a business registered at my apartment.

I’d love to add something original to this post, but you’ve pretty much covered it.

To your point about corporate overlords: many of us loved Reddit until we realized it was a cesspool (for any number of reasons) and moved on, and it’s almost a shameful thing to admit we ever liked Reddit at this point.

To put it more simply: we just love federation and we love the format. We could always jump ship to Mastodon or any other federated platform, but long form discussion is what I believe drives adoption of Lemmy in particular the most.
