So, I live in Versailles, as my username says. I speak four languages, one of them being Portuguese. However, I speak Brazilian Portuguese (I am a born Chilean). Portugal is closer to France as it’s in the same continent, but Brazilians, or so I heard, have had a hard time understanding the Portuguese from Europe. Is it the same for in Portugal with Brazilians?
If not, I will have to study my European Portuguese! 😆
I’ve been able to communicate with people from Porto and Lisboa using my Paulista Portuguese, and to get around little Portugal where I live.
They know immediately that you’re Brazilian and will be vaguely condescending about it the entire time, but you can communicate.
Condescending how ? Obrigado 🙏
“Bom dia, queria oito pasteis de nata pf”
“Uuuitu? Paxteeeix?”
I have Portuguese and Spanish friends talking each in their own language and still understanding each other.
